Natural Hardwood Floor Cleaner

Jenny Marrs of HGTV shares her favorite DIY Natural Hardwood Floor Cleaner

Like many of you, Dave and I are at home right now with a gaggle of little people who are constantly running inside, bringing with them mud and (something I never used to care so much about before now) germs. While I would love to use this downtime productively by organizing rooms and closets and tackling fun projects, I’ve pretty much become a short-order cook, laundry service and germ-fighting machine. Any other mommas of littles with me on this??

While I can’t provide you with any help in the laundry department, I promise to share some of my current (quick, nutritious and easy!) recipes here soon. In the meantime, I wanted to hop on and share my go-to hardwood floor cleaning recipe. It contains zero harsh chemicals (which is super important to me with a little crawler at home) and does an amazing job creating clean, sparkling floors that smell amazing.

**I’m not affiliated with these companies and this is not a sponsored post, I just wanted to share a natural cleaner that I love with y’all! Also, I don’t know the original author of this recipe, but my friend Wynne Elder shared it with me and she is a clean living + wellness guru.

Most importantly, this cleaner can be whipped up quickly with only three ingredients – water, thieves cleaner, and olive oil (you can also add essential oils to the mix – I added the “purify” blend today). I think the secret here is the olive oil. I’ve never used it before in my floor cleaner but it really does polish the floor beautifully.

In my quarantine uniform: sweats, glasses (why waste contacts?!) and slippers. Dave snapped a photo and asked, “are you sure you don’t want to brush your hair?” This is real life, people.

Dave offered to get in on the cleaning action… he can’t NOT pose ridiculously… bless.

You only need 3 Ingredients to clean your hardwood floors.

Natural Hardwood Floor Cleaner

Natural Hardwood Floor Cleaner

  • 1 gallon hot water
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Thieves Cleaner
  • 3-5 drops Essential Oil of choice

Combine ingredients in a bucket (or in your sink). Soak mop or cleaning cloth in the mixture, ring out excess and wipe small section of floor. Immediately wipe dry with a soft cloth and move to the next section of flooring.

Okay, our floor is sparkly clean (for the next five minutes) and the sun is shining outside so I’m headed out with my crew for a little adventure on the farm.

Holding our world in prayer and hopeful we will come out on the other side of this quarantine more appreciative, kind, and generous humans. We will get through this.

Sending love to you all,
